A unique type of savings account where you deposit your money and agree to not withdraw any funds for a certain period of time. At the end of the time period, you get your original money deposited plus all interest earned. (Interest is paid yearly or at the maturity date of the CD, whichever is shorter, and can be mailed by check, deposited to your account, or compounded to the CD.)
